Normally I hate clowns

But I sure do love me some Leo Sayer. Throwback thursdays is now in effect

Where art thou Trick?

will be putting together a fall mixtape brought to you hopefully with a little help from Trick who is currently pulling a large Justin Vernon move. He is sans communicating with all things people (aka me) while he sits in the woods of Minnesota maybe debating his life plan. We have enough brooding people in the world Trick. Stay away from the light, come back to the blogosphere. Maybe Beirut's melodies can return him to his natural habitat, the concrete jungles of L.A.? Pray for his swift return.

Winter before August ends

I know it isn't the right season but this song is the perfect demember song. I know it will be on my ipod when I go to the snowy state of Wisconsin for christmas. What is better than sitting outside listening to music with your hotty toddy in hand and the biggest warmest coat you got. Who ever thought I would be nostalgic for winter....

Safe in the steep cliffs

This song makes me want to drive up to Portland Oregon personally thank Douglas Appling then carry on my merry way getting lost in the woods of America. Get yourself this album! Find it here

Inspiration from Friends

Well my good buddy, who is currently holding it down on aggressivechimp, inspired me to revisit the greatness of Discovery, composed of Ra Ra Riots front man andVampire Weekend's keyboardist. Chalmwow, which I shall now refer to him as since he reminds me slightly of the first shamwow guy (slightly being the key word), prefers I Want You Back but I prefer to rock out to So Insane. Let the beat build then fade then build again. Enjoy!

I take all of that back

WAIT Passion Pit totally wins on the California Girl Remix. It is like a 90s dance party gone right and just wait for Snoop Doggs part. I am sorry I witheld this

When California and Canada meet

Okay I know admitting this isn't the best thing in the world but I do like Katy Perry's California Girls. Before you judge come on, Snoop Dogg is in it. And after his jam of Oh Sookie which I will gladly post right after you guys bump MSTRKRFT Remix of the summer jam.

And for those of you who have not had the pleasure of Sookie, this is for you

He know how to act, slowmotions for me

I love all of Slowmotions. You should too. Download both albums, Quick Potions and Square Piggy/Round Holly here. In the meantime here is for listening pleasure

Is The Scene you are Socially involved in Broken?

Who doesn't love them. They can span from Lover's Spit which is compiled of a laid back track with some dirty lyrics, to 7/4 shoreline which definetly picks the beat up. Just ask R Kelley who has a sick remix with the song I'm a Flirt. The BSS beat makes the song actually enjoyable, who knew! Well ladies and Gentleman here is another beat to get those heads bobbin. Also enjoy the video because who doesn't like a good slappin.

String Bands on a Thursday, Well I Never!

Well since Nick is sincerely lacking and rightfully so, he had an accident so he is taking a mental health week. Well I haven't been posting since I have been in lovely California wine country. Thanks to a very savvy coworker I picked up on this group. Get into them one of the only remainign African American jug bands out there. Said what! Get down

Monday Music Day

Recently came across the band Light Pollution. Roots were spouted in Chicago and currently they are touring this great nation. Here is a sample of their new music off the album Apparitions.

Why you want to Harsh my Mello?

Remember those people who in college who:
A. Started vomiting all over the place prompting you to immediately break for the exit before the smell started to intoxicate your nasal cavities
B. Your "friend" who would make such a drunken scene either by screaming or fighting that you had to leave before someone started asking, "Is he/she with you?"
C. People who believed that they were the worlds greatest DJ when in fact they were killing your party.
D. People who crashed parties or concerts in such hoards that it had to be cancelled. Keller Willaims really hit it home by vocalizing his feeling towards these said kind of people with his song "Gate Crashers Suck". He was not a happy man.

Well I don't like a party killer and neither does David E. Sugar. Hailing from the U.K. and forever reminding us he may talk about party killing tendencies, but his songs surely won't ruin any.

United Kingdom of Gold Panda

Gold Panda, best known for remixing Bloc Party, Little Boots, etc.; can also lay down freshy track all on his lonesome. Hailing from obviously the UK, I present the more recent member to join the collection of EP's, You. To enjoy follow these directions: Get in car, buckle up your seat belts, start engine, store your tray tables up, pedal to the metal, then sit back and relax.

Excuse me Ratatat

You wan't me to do what? Party with children? Don't mind if I do...

Thinking can sometimes hurt

The evolution of the human beings has been one crazy trip. The developments and stress accompanied by our sedentary, agricultural lifestyles have changed our "needs" drastically. In this digital age the majority of us (and the majority I mean those possessing the power to access this thought portal) do not stress about the simplicities of life (food, water, shelter, etc.). Instead our focus has shifted to these mental stress factors. Our need in this world is for connections, to feel not alone even if we are by ourselves. We constantly create, break and recreate new relationships virtual or face-to-face in order to sustain our dietary need.

Sleeping in the Woods by a Fire in the Night...

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about this whole "the grass is always greener" concept. Is it possible for anyone to be truly, genuinely, and unequivocally "happy" in a given time space, with no thoughts of "what if?" or "what could have been?

Once again, I find myself torn. I spent the last 6 months of my life in a tiny ski town in Colorado, isolated and cut off from vast cityscapes and mass throngs of modern-day youth. Don't get me wrong - I wasn't chopping my own wood and hunting Elk with a make-shift cross-bow (although I kind of wish I was?) Surrounding me were a strange confusion of luxury ski resorts, high-end boutiques, and over-priced sushi restaurants. And this unsettled me.

Leo said it right:

"The only downer is, everyone's got the same idea. We travel thousands of miles just to watch TV and check in to somewhere with all the comforts of home, and you gotta ask yourself, what is the point of that?"

What is the point of that? Why do we seek out modernism in the most backwards and far-flung of places? More specifically, why do we desire isolation in the midst of urban chaos, and urban chaos in the midst of isolation?

Is this the natural ebb and flow of today's human interaction? Have we not disguised our most animalistic and innate desires in a pretentious masking of consumerist greed and imperfection? I guess what I'm trying to say is that if we go to the woods, we must sleep by a fire. It's not what we are supposed to do by any means, rather, it is what we were born to do.

In honor of all this, I have chosen to share with you today Sir Nicholas Drake.

The West Coast ain't the best coast but they definetly have some hits

Well I have put together a lil mix to really commemorate my feelings towards August. It is hot and all I want to do is drive around in a car blasting these bad boys. The best place to drive around is California so in honor of the drive I want to take in California here is my mix. I kind of stopped caring about the order but you all should realize these are gems! If you don't like these songs, you don't like America, and if you don't like America....you can just get out!

Inside the forest they awake

Just in case no one understood today is one of the most glorious days out east!!
The sun is shining the heatwave is under control. Maybe life will be okay, well at least for now. It has been sometime since my last post had some familiy sitches and a good ol fashioned birthday to celebrate. We all know birthdays should at least be a week or longer depending on how great you are at finagling your way. I spent my birthday getting roughed up in some good ol fashioned fun while nick spent his vomiting and maybe crying. Obviously he cannot handle fun. WEll in honor of this glorious mysterious summers day I think a little mystical action is called for. Does anyone remember the book Good Faeries/ Bad Faeries by Brian Froud. Well I do! As i was again elaborating on my musical taste I came across this gem and immediately thought "Dear god the book now has a video". I will leave it up to you all which side of the faeries she falls upon but come on the gurl is a little scurry.

We're Only Young and Naive Still...

There is a childhood need in all of us be completely uninhibited. To run as fast as we can down the nearest street. To tear our clothes and skin our knees. To be completely out of line and inappropriate in public. To laugh until tears are streaming down our faces.

Satisfy this need, people. It's healthy.

The video is by The Naked and Famous, a band out of New Zealand, and it may help translate what I'm trying to say. I love them, and you should too.
